I was thrilled when the owner of Deserved Massage in Finnieston invited me along for a Swedish Back Massage. I was even more thrilled when I did my research and confirmed that yes it was a real business and the masseuses were two highly qualified professionals and it wasn’t a dodgy internet proposition. Sorry Grant – I guess I’m just a little paranoid!
We arranged a time and date that suited me and it fortuitously fell on the Saturday following what was a pretty rough week in the Mama Says household.
The entrance to The Hive looks rustic to say the least. However this random building set back from Argyll Street houses a pretty awesome collective of small businesses, including my Post Natal PT Strong Like a Mother and my destination that day Deserved Massage.
I was greeted by Tara my masseuse, who is a total credit to this business. She was warm, friendly and put me right at ease, much like the cosy, dimly lit treatment room. The decor is totally on brand, all decked out in their signature purple with the subtle scent of orange blossom in the air.
Tara ran through some questions with me about my general health, and covered off any specifics relating to my back/muscles etc so that she could tailor my massage to any concerns I had. As I didn’t have anything too major we agreed to go ahead with a standard Swedish massage that she could tweak as she went.
As it transpires I had some serious tension in my upper back and shoulders, likely due to lugging about my giant baby and some recent job stress. To really work that out Tara added in some hot stones to relax my muscles further, some Indian head massage techniques and a smattering of deep tissue massage on the worst of my knots.
After my blissful hour of a thorough pummelling, coaxing and easing of my knotty back (when you meet Tara it’s hard to believe she is capable of such a work out as she’s quite petite with a gentle manner!!) I felt amazing! We ran through some important aftercare chat and I floated on out the door to meet my boys for a nice brunch.
I think it’s safe to say that I will be making a more regular habit of going for a massage after my visit to Deserved Massage…let’s face it who deserves it more than us mamas?!
