As we have finally moved into autumn I thought it might be an idea to share some of the places and things I have loved this summer. I was fortunate enough to be invited along to lots of fun events, eaten and drank all the good stuff and tried out some wonderful products to boot!
Grain and Grind over the hill from Shawlands is an amazing brunch spot! They roast their own coffee via their sister company Southside Roasters, make banging fresh takes on the brunch menu (like this spicy brisket topped French toast!) and have a pop up once a week from the awesome Kitty’s Donuts too. Worth the steep hill walk 100%.
Tantrum Doughnuts is another top pick from me – open for a while over in the west end, they launched their city centre shop this year and I have never been happier. Delicious doughnuts is a given but don’t miss out on their Butterbeer and home made marshmallows especially now the weather is getting cooler.
The Ivy On The Square is the epitome of sophistication frankly. I went for a girly lunch here with my babe Claire from Cailyns Mummy and I’m not sure if I was more impressed by the food or the service. These fish cakes were so good and the chocolate bomb dessert is a must order! Will definitely be back for an evening meal with Colin at some point soon.
Gnom is another shining example of the growing foodie scene in Glasgow’s Southside. Progressing from their super cool food truck Chompsky, Gnom is a stylish and delicious wee hot spot. They have a seasonal menu (as all good places should!) and never fails to impress.
While the city centre may seem saturated with burger chains, take a short trip out to Bearsden and check out Burger and Bun. We loved their family friendly atmosphere, fresh as anything burgers and super amped up milkshakes!
Get ya drinks on!
The Refinery at St. Andrews square in Edinburgh is a great venue. I have been for a breakfast Mummy Meet up and then for drinks with the girls too and both times was really impressed. The cocktails are as pretty as they are delicious and no one laughs when you ask which ones have flowers so you can post it on insta.
The Epicurean cocktail bar set within the Radisson Collection Hotel on the royal Mile is another swoon worthy venue, its design inspired by the Scottish Colourists. Their summer cocktail menu was gorgeous, even featuring a special cocktail to help raise money and awareness for saving the bees. I’m looking forward to seeing what their festive menu looks like.
Mayze Finnieston makes chai lattes (and vegan food) so good I had to include them in amongst all these boozy delights. I always order them when I’m out with the kids as I know Harrison likes to scoop my foam and frankly he doesn’t need any caffeine and theirs is the nicest I have had in ages.
From the gin based cocktails served at my first event (more on that elsewhere) to a fabulous Moét fuelled afternoon tea Browns Glasgow is absolutely my top drinks venue in Glasgow this summer. I’m heading to their Christmas preview event in a few weeks and I’m sure it won’t disappoint.
Glamming it up
I started working at The Body Shop which has only served to inflame my skincare obsession. Their masks are so gorgeous and this British Rose plumping one is my all time favourite.
I was totally pampered at a recent (gifted) visit to Roar in Strathbungo. They gave my hair an amazing moisturising treatment and blow dry so I was suitably glam for The Mighty Mama Hub launch party. It’s great to have a selection of salons locally that you can trust with your locks.
Venturing slightly further afield and still talking hair…I hopped on the train over to my old stomping ground Stirling recently to Mums Club Monday. No this isn’t a drinking sesh at Dusk (oh the good old days!) but in fact a genius idea from Honey and Violet salon. On a Monday there is a 10% discount and an open door policy for Mamas to come along with their kids and get their hair or beauty treatments done. I got a colour refresh and trim, while H played with his wee pals and then took a nap. It was so relaxing to know I didn’t need to worry about disturbing other clients as they were all fellow mamas and kids too.
From one violet to another…Violet Rose hosted a series of make up masterclasses which sold out in record time!! My gal Jen is an absolute powerhouse of a woman and a true artist. She taught myself and loads of other Scottish women how to recreate her signature glowy make up style along with a delicious afternoon tea.
Best of the rest
We had a fab family holiday in Blackpool/St Anne’s which you can read more about here and went on a Harry Potter themed adventure in Edinburgh as well as attending my first ever book launch for the amazing Mummy JoJo. We went cruising round Perthshire in a shiny red sports car, saw my all time favourite musical Wicked, played in the park, sunbathed in the nicest summer weather ever, saw friends get married and launched an Epic Business with my bestie!
How was your summer and what exciting plans do you have for autum/winter?
